The 2017 Northeast District Convention is going to be unlike anything this district has seen before!

When we left Poughkeepsie last year without host chapters, it constitutionally fell to the District Counselors and Governors to decide where the next convention would be held.  In the past when this happened, a second call for bids was put out, and the site was chosen from the second round of bidders.

There has been discussion on the national level about whether it was still practical to meet on campuses using traditional host chapters, or whether we should move toward hotel conventions. This seemed like a good opportunity for Northeast to give a hotel convention a try. (We haven't had a hotel convention since the early 1990s.)

It turned out to be more of a challenge than we had expected - our district has grown quite a bit since then, and finding a suitably sized venue - that we could afford - took some real work. Lancaster has great facilities and is home to some amazing history.

Admittedly, at $65 this convention is more expensive than our last two. It's important to recognize that those were unrealistically inexpensive. District convention is supposed to pay for itself. Chapters should not have to raise large amounts of money to successfully host a district convention. The last two years aside, Northeast has traditionally had some of the least expensive convention registrations at $30 to $40. In other districts, registration has run as high as $75, $85 and more.

Your District leadership has worked very hard to make this convention a great investment. We hope you'll join us as we celebrate our 30th year as Northeast!
